Published on 30/01/2020 - Californian biotech company Genomatica, in partnership with the nylon fiber manufacturer Aquafil, has announced that it has produced the first ton of caprolactam - an important intermediate of polyamide 6 - obtained from the fermentation of biomass, thus opening the way to bio production -nylon, eighty years after the development of the polymer in the DuPont (PA66) and IG Farben (PA6) laboratories. Caprolactam was then transformed into PA6 in the Slovenian Aquafil plant.
